Memorial Day weekend is really hit or miss anymore. Having been through everything with Lucas and Caleb on a "floating" holiday is tough like that. This year was really good, though. We had lots of plans to be together as a family.
Before getting into the weekend, though I want to share these two picture we took the Thursday night before we left. What a beautiful way to start a four day weekend! My baby boys were smiling down on me.
We left Friday morning for Washington, MO. We were headed up there so the boys could ride the Amtrak to St. Louis and back. This was their Christmas gift from Grandpa Tim last year. We waited til May so we could take a long weekend and the weather would be nice. For the past 5 months it is all we have heard about. The trip up there was nice. Simon did better than the big boys on the ride. We also took Snickers with us. He rode in his crate in the back of the van so he wouldn't get car sick. The plan was for him to stay and play with Gulliver and his family.
All three boys riding in the car with their blankies!
We got to Washington early afternoon and after unloading and feeding Simon at Dad's, we headed to Michelle's to drop off Snickers and for the boys to play with Maddie and Austin. It was great to spend a few hours over there, visiting and watching the dogs as the got to know each other. And I have to say that I love how our kids have sooo much fun together. They are so close even though there is 200 miles between them. We then headed back to Dad's where we figured out some dinner and Simon had his first bath in a real bathtub. That's right, in case you've never been to my house, we don't have a bathtub. Just a single shower. The boy LOVED it!!!
Love love love this face!!
The big boys wiped out sleeping together.
We got up Saturday morning and took it easy for a couple hours. Then we packed what we needed for our day trip and headed to the train station. The boys have been down to the train station before to watch trains, but haven't been on one yet. The clouds had rolled in, and it was a bit chilly, but we were still going to have a great time.
You can see the rain coming in from Hermann.
Waiting for the train to arrive. It was 20 minutes late.
Simon and I ready to get moving.
Colton excited!
And this is how Ethan sat the entire hour ride into St. Louis. This boy's love for trains is unmatched.
The ride was so much fun! The boys had a great time and watched out the window for most of it. I am really looking forward to Amtrak coming down to Springfield. I would probably visit home more often, not having to make the drive.
When we arrived in STL, we headed out towards Union Station for lunch. We had two hours before the return train departed. Not as much time as I originally thought, but it was enough to see a few things.
The boys watching them make fudge.
Feeding the koi scraps from lunch.
On Sunday we visited my mom for awhile in the morning, then headed to Michelle's house for BBQ and more time to visit. The kids played really hard, and were pretty wiped out. There was some craziness getting out of town and we ended up leaving around 8:30 Sunday evening.
Monday afternoon we headed to Kristan's house for grilled fajitas with a bunch of our friends. We truly are blessed with some amazing friends. Our kids all have a blast together and our husbands get along. Bonus and BONUS! It was such a fun night together, and the best way to wrap up a fabulous weekend.
Pretty sure there are 5 or 6 kids in the picture here. HA!
Simon's first watermelon. The boy LOVED it!!
All in all the weekend was a blast! We had some really great family time and kicked off the summer right. I am looking forward to more time with friends and family as the summer moves along. Our birthday bash is in a little over a week and I can't wait to see most of them again!
